Hi all,

I'm 7 weeks post treatment chemoradiothery last few days mucous has returned and dry mouth a lot worse is this normal I thought I was turning a corner but side effects seem to be returning is this normal?

  • Hi Bradlou m unfortunately yes it is , we seem to have a case if two steps forward one step back ,it’s our bodies way of saying look what you've done to me , I am 16 month post radiotherapy for tonsil cancer and my dry mouth is slowly improving m one day yiu will wake up and the mucus will have gone honest. I occasionally get a little mucus especially if I’ve eaten something harsh and the throat  way if protect itself is extra mucus. Maybe if you are  pushing yourself  with food  have a day or so just having ensures or fortisps it’s nit a backward step it’s just giving Throat time to re adjust.

hope thus help , I know 7 weeks seems a long time but in scheme of things it’s not in recovery terms

    good luck

Hi there hold in I'm now 1 year passed treatment chemo and radiotherapy for my neck cancer I still have dryness I walk about with iced water and sip when needed

  • Hi Bradlou

sorry to hear of your issue, im now a year from completion of radio and chemo for stage 4 tonsil and lymph gland cancer, it took me around 5 months before i could eat, the mucus / dry mouth issue continued for another 3 months. its not great but after a long period of nothing, i started improving a small amount every day. Your consultant / macmillan nurse is your friend in these times. i know these issues are tough but as you improve and get back to some normality you will feel a whole lot better.

    stay positive
