Hi. I have had a lump in my submandibular gland for about 3 years I have had a cough for 6 weeks went to get it checked. And have an urgent ultrasound on Tuesday. I am so worried that if it is this it could have spread.

Will i I have to wait for results or will they give me a clue there ?

i am 33 and a few years back had a flat mole removed and checked which was fine

The lump is attached to my skin and nerves and pulling in my neck skin

  • I can't answer your worry as I'm not a doctor but will say that I have a salver gland at the bottom of my mouth that goes up and down and is I was told by my dentist and consultant (though he couldn't see it or feel it) that it was blocked and I take it it clears every now and then, I had an ultrasound and the man that did it said there was nothing there, so yes they might be able to tell you something if you ask but would think they would be limited in what they are aloud to tell you, (saying that he did say the salver glands at the back of my mouth had gone) mine doesn't cause me pain but I have had a neck dissection and radio so that might be why. I am trying to tell you that it might not be as bad as you are thinking so try not to think the worst, if it is bad they will sort it quickly and most of us survive, once again I am not a doctor.

  • I don't think they'll be able to tell you anything on the spot, are they planning to do a needle biopsy at the same time? That's what I was initially sent for (though the biopsy didn't actually happen but that's another story) and the doctor told me it was nothing to worry about which turned out not to be true. Probably not the most reassuring thing to hear so sorry about that but there are many and varied other causes of lumps and bumps and the majority of these things aren't cancer, so hopefully you won't draw the short straw, but at least you're seeing the right people and they're investigating.
