Hi.

Just looking for some advice.  I'm on fluconazole for oral thrush and it's helping but my mouth is burning.

Any ideas on what is best to eat until this clears.

Even soluble paracetamol stings

Thankyou for the replays on what to get for dry mouth ive ordered the melts and hopefully won't take long to arrive.

I'm currently eating scrambled eggs

  • You could try Ready Breck with milk or if you have the time oats cooked for a long time or they stick and won't go down, I didn't get Thrush so am not sure about it but I would say stay clear of sugar and sweet things as they still burn my throat if I have to much, the other thing you could try is cut up fruit with plenty of cream, I use Elmly as it's cheaper and lots, it sort of neutralises the sugar.

Yeah ive already had the experience with the sugar won't make that mistake again.

I'm ok with swallowing foods the now it's just my mouth.

The fruit and cream sounds good I'll try it tomorrow.

    Thanks

  • Sorry to hear you are having such awful problems with oral thrush.  Would be worth asking the online dietician for advice in the ask an expert section.

I did suffer from this about 12 years ago after a chest infection which wouldn't clear and many antibiotics over several months and its not nice.   I found plain natural yoghurt by Yeo Valley very good and I also made some of my own with a yoghurt maker from Lakeland and had loads of it. Natural yoghurt contains good bacteria and the plain one doesn't have added sugars that might feed the thrush. The homemade one will have more good bacteria than shop-bought one because it will be fresher. Well worth a try to help mouth and gut health. I also took an acidophyllis supplement which is a probiotic which helps gut flora.

Do you think you could manage some homemade soups whizzed up in a blender and left to cool a little before eating? You would be getting some goodness that way. Brocolli soup, courgette soup, carrot soup, mushroom, leek and potato are good if you like them and you can add a cooked potato near the end of blending to get some carbs in. Probably best to avoid too many spices for flavouring.

Hope you are feeling better soon and find some other foods that don't cause too much stinging.

    Take care

    Thankyou for this advice

Someone else mentioned natural yoghurt  I'll try it see how I get on.

Funnily enough me and my husband were just talking about putting the soup on.

    Hi,

my husband found some relief in sucking ice cubes, and diabetic ice cream. He didn't like the taste of natural yougurt and the oral thrush made the limited foods he could take miserable. Most of his nutrition was through a rig.

    hi there

I am almost 2 years on since diagnosis of Tonsillar Cancer with lymph secondaries so stay positive ! I am 60 years old and female.

I had terrible oral thrush for MONTHS !! I tried everything on the market and had loads of different prescriptions from my consultant and GP. Nothing worked and it made my mouth and throat unbearably sore. Then my best friend advised me to try natural KEFIR . Within 2 weeks of me drinking it every day my thrush went ! It is a natural drink - you can find it in most supermarkets  in the cold milk section but cheapest is to buy the Polish version in Tesco in the chiller section green and white bottle.  Im not joking I couldn't believe the response. I held it in my mouth and swirled it round the mouth a couple of times and spat it out. I then used to drink a couple of large glasses a day. Be careful initially as it can upset your tummy but try it. I also agree with the other comment about natural yogurt. I still have a large bowl of natural sugar free yoghurt every day (greekstyle) just to keep my mouth clean.

Good luck and stay strong !!

    best wishes Ann
