Hi. I'm two years after removal of my left parotid and radiotherapy and just noticed a small black spot near the site of the removal. It's about 2mm, round and not raised, and appears to be just under the skin and very black. There is no pain or other symptoms. Any thoughts on what it might be?
It could be something or nothing but none of us here are qualified or would want to offer you suggestions
Get an appointment with your oncologist straight away without waiting for your next appointment is my advice

Hello Hedgelayer , You have done the right thing in coming here for advice ,try not to panic as I expect the last post sounds a bit alarming , I personally have not come across this, so like anything that is out of the ordinary whether it be a lump. bump or a spot such as you have it should be checked as quick as possible due to your history . Hope all goes well in getting a quick answer from your consultant ,who you should still be under . All the best ,take care .
Chris ,
Hi Chris. Many thanks for your reply. Just to be clear, there is no panic - I've been through too much the last two years for that. My question was prompted by the fact that, as we all know, RT 'is the gift that keeps on giving', and 'issues' can appear months and even years after treatment, and it was possible that one of our group may have said 'oh yes, I had that and it's this or that'. Not withstanding any of this I have an appointment with my oncology team in the next few weeks and will of course get them to look at it. Thanks again for your reply. Roger
Hi Hedgelayer. No experience of this - maybe someone will have. However, you could maybe go along to your GP for reassurance - easier to get to than to hospital. They will know if the spot rings alarm bells, and then you can expediate Oncology appointment if needed. Or GP may feel it needs a different specialty, Dermatology for example. However, they may well be able to give you an innocent explanation for it. They’re not idiots. Either way you sound chilled, and have options.
Am I right that you had L’Hermitte’s in the months after treatment? If so, has it resolved? I’m coming up to 2 years and mine hasn’t gone, although doesn’t bother me. Oncologist said it was unusual for it to last beyond 18 months. Wondered about your experience.
Good luck with ‘the black spot”
Hilary
Hi Hellebore1. Yes I did experience L'Hermitte's, and very strange it was, as I had no idea what was going on, as I'd never heard of it. However, it did reduce gradually, and has now disappeared completely. Mine was quite severe for a period but as you say, it usually lasts just a few months and is unusual beyond 18, but great that you are coping with it.
Best regards
No worries Roger , please let us know how you get on . All the best .
Chris .
