Hi my husband is on week 4 of Radiotherapy for mouth cancer. From Sunday he has just been having a liquid diet via his PEG. Today he has developed very loose stools. Would it be ok for him to take some Imodium until we are able to speak to his nurse tomorrow. He’s very concerned as we have quite a journey to the hospital he’s terrified of having an ‘accident’ en-route! Any help or advice would be really appreciated

  • Hi Scarlet , sorry to hear about your husband , I expect he is like this because of the sudden change in diet , I would take the Imodium as it will not hurt him , I used to take kaolin and morphine when I suffered from this but its no long available due to drug addicts so I do take Imodium or similar especially for peace of mind as that's the last thing you want to happen . Has his liquid food supplement got fibre with it as this used to upset my stomach , I have Ensure compact but they are available with fibre so maybe it could be causing the trouble as well as the diet change . Hope this helps as I know what its like . All the best ,take care .

  • I don't want to worry you but I had very "loose stools" from about day three after my operation while still in hospital, that was mid April up until beginning of July, I had to sit on the toilet to pee and never lost wind unless I was sat on the loo, I had mentioned it to everyone when in hospital and after to the nurse dietitian and all the rest, it wasn't until the last week of my radio that my temperature went up and I went back to hospital (the best week of radio, no traveling) and they found I had CDif. The point is they all thought it was something else as we are on so many different things so it might be worth asking.
