hi all my dad had his rig fitted last Monday and he came home from hospital yesterday morning, I was just wondering what people used to keep it clean? I’ve seen dettol antiseptic wound wash would this be ok or is their anything else? Thank you. He’s waiting to have half jaw removal but Macmillan nurse told us that there is 5 people in front of him still waiting for same operation so we don’t know when it’s going to be x
Hi.
My husband had his RIG fitted 2 weeks ago. We were told to clean the area with just warm water - maybe with a little mild soap in it, no antiseptic as that can sting. Important to dry around the buttons carefully. I use cotton buds and gauze.. keep a watch for redness and heat as infection seems quite common.
Good luck

Hello Jojo2210, all I use is a baby wipe and have never had any trouble with the area , I tried not to over do it as once it had healed up as I found it became a bit tender so a quick wipe done it for me . Hopefully he will not have to wait to long , All the best for the operation ,take care .
