Although my cancer was base of tongue we are all in the same oropharyngeal boat.
I have found this forum invaluable
You don’t get enough info from your consultants and here at least you do find the questions to ask
i wish you and your brother well and hope your journey is as smooth as can be.

Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
Hi AlynnMac
Welcome and so pleased you found us! There’s lots of help and advice on this site...I’ve also joined a forum in Australia that I’ve joined as found it very useful too!
Your brothers cancer sounds the same as my partner, who had cancer in left tonsil, which was found after his swollen lymph node on the same side was found to harbour cancer cells. He had the tonsil removed and is now five weeks through six of radiotherapy and has had two bouts of chemo on day 1 and day 21. We will have to wait three months after treatment finishes for a scan which will show whether the treatment has been successful....
It would be interesting to know the treatment protocols in the States but everywhere is different I think, and the treatment is individually planned to each persons cancer as far as I can tell.
Good luck and let us know how your brother gets on.
Jaffa:
Thank you for the reply. I will update on his treatment protocols, once they are set up. I believe he starts treatment on 8/9, but they live about 5 hours away from me, so I get limited information. All I know is 8 weeks of Chemo and Radiation. They are waiting on surgery to see if the tumor on the tonsil and lymph node responds with chemo and radiation.
God Bless all of you dealing with any type of cancer!
Best of Luck to you as well....
Hi Alynnmac , welcome to the Macmillan caner forum and of course its ok you have joined , I have not suffered from tonsil cancer as my cancers where in different areas of the head and neck but please feel free to ask any questions as there are others on here that have had this sort of treatment . Lets hope the radio and chemo will shrink the tumour so they can plan for surgery if required . Im sure you have found out quite a bit of information on here through reading older posts , wishing you ,your brother and family all the very best and hope all goes well , take care .
Chris
