Hi just started my 2nd week.

I'm aware of the oral hygiene and cream for neck. But I'm starting to loose my taste buds and been told about the sugar in foods re my teeth, but the dietician says to eat whilst I can.

Starting to struggle with hot and cold food & drinks temps. (teeth tongue & tonsil)

Also my mouth is bone dry over night and I'm trying to drink water as much as poss.

Been told the next 4 weeks are not good followed by another 4 weeks.

Haven't reached the pain thresholds yet.

Any tips please ?

  • By end of week 3 I had a nasogastric tube in place. It was a godsend. I could take fluids and Fortisip drinks. Some people get a PEG which accesses the stomach directly but my oncologist doesn't recommend those. The NG tube was fine and I had it in place for 7 weeks.

Make sure you get the pain relief you need and take it on time so you are not dealing with breakthrough pain. Apart from ibuprofen and paracetamol you can get codeine, various forms of morphine and fentanyl patches. Don't be brave. You'll heal faster if you are well nourished and coping with pain.
