Hi everyone,
Just had rig fitted ahead of radiation next week weren't too bad in the end and glad I've got it now in case eating and swallowing goes to pot.
I'm trying to do everything thing bite size, and not think to far ahead regards the seven weeks ahead, like everyone says small steps
I know their seems to be a few similar to me as in were all starting off so good luck to everyone.
Hello Martin
Glad to hear the rig fitting wasn't too bad. I had the PEG, which I believe is similar, and I was very glad to have it. Most of the time I still could manage to eat and drink small amounts, but it was a struggle to get the required amount of calories and fluid down. So these feeding tubes are great for being able to top up your intake to the necessary levels.
Yes small steps is definitely good advice. As you say I think there are a few of you in the group starting treatment soon so you will be able to keep each other company and compare notes as you go along. Don't forget you have the option of adding people as friends and then you can message each other to chat if you want. I did that throughout my treatment and I found those chats with others on the same stage of the journey helped me a lot.
Best wishes for your treatment, and the same to anyone else starting soon. xx
Hi Martin, so pleased it all went ok , it goes to show it changes from person to person as there is a post where the lady suffered a lot of pain having it fitted , so well done . Great advice from Margaret , just do things at your own pace and im sure you will be ok , remember to let your team know if you feel uncomfortable at anytime , good luck for next week , all the best .
Chris .
Hi
My husband is having RIG fitted on Monday - 1st day of radiotherapy. He is very apprehensive so it was nice to read your post. He has 6 weeks radio for tonsil cancer and lymph node spread. T2N1M0. Going to be difficult as hospital 50 miles away, still sooner we start the sooner it will be ended! Look forward to following your journey
Hi Martin
OH's RIG is in too, we had a few sketchy moments but happily it is settling down ok, we think. We had to change the dressing because that was causing the most pain, it was too tight and pulling the hairs on his tummy so he couldn't straighten up!
Glad you're in good shape, keep in touch x
Husbands RIG fitted Monday. Surprisingly without too many problems. He is on only minimal paracetamol. As above was starved from 6am and no fluids after 10am, RIG not done till 5pm so he wasn't allowed any fluids till 9pm - therefore extremely thirsty. Not planning on using it till he really has to - but one more hurdle done!
