Hi all, bit of an upsetting day today as we received the letter that’s the doctor has received from the hospital and it’s just made everything feel real. I really don’t feel good about this for my poor poor dad who just never gets a break from all this rubbish they can’t offer reconstruction because it will be to complicated and they say he may not be able to swalllow again. I wish the pain was manageable because he would definitely not have it done. His speech with be effected and permanent PEG. Has anyone had this surgery and do you have any pictures etc just something to may be help and make my dad feel a bit better I can’t go on google as it’s all bad please can someone send me pictures xx
Hi Jojo2210 , I believe I have mentioned that I had my lower jawbone replaced in 2010 , it is a big operation and you must be in the right frame of mind to have it done as it will affect the shape of his lower jaw once its reconstructed so he will look a bit different . I cannot swallow properly and can only swallow thin liquids so rely on my peg for food supplements , it has now become part of me along with my lack of voice as I have also had my voice box removed . All these changes have taken time for me to accept but I have learned to adapt and overcome these changes and it is normal life for me now and I live a good quality of life considering what I have been through , it has not stopped me going to parties , shopping , walking the dogs etc plus I still have my family ,friends, garden and D.I.Y to keep me ticking over so its not all doom and gloom . Unfortunately we are not allowed to post photos on here as they can offend some people , all I do know is that im glad I went through the surgeries and treatments as its given me 10 more years since I last had cancer ,so its all good . Hope this helps in some way . All the best to you and your dad ,take care .
Chris .x
