Dizziness caused by chemo

I have posted on here a few times asking for shared experiences and ideas about feeling dizzy and lightheaded. Today a physio diagnosed me with a vestibular disorder(Inner ear/brain function to do with balance) due to having cisplatin ans carboplatin chemotherapy.

The good news is it’s treatable over time.

I wanted to share this on here because it has taken me many months to distinguish the cause of my dizziness and to separate it specifically from fatigue, blood pressure, anxiety and other ongoing symptoms. I hope my post might be useful to someone else at some point in time.

Vestibule disorder from chemo isn’t  well documented or common. My own experience is that feeling dizzy can be both terrifying and life limiting. It’s a horrible sensation to have especially long term and an absolute revelation that this symptom is treatable.

Treatments are done using simple exercises that recalibrate the messages between the eyes, ear and brain and  to improve balance.

I wish anyone reading this all the best in whatever stage of your treatment/recovery journey you are at

  • I meant to add that I have had vestibular disorder in the past though not due to chemo and this re programming stuff with your eye and balance coordination does work. I woke up one morning thinking I’d had a stroke but ten minutes of exercises and I could stand again without falling over
