Rhinitis after throat cancer

Last year August 20th I had a total tracheostomy to remove throat cancer and two nodes of cancer in my left neck. This was followed by 3 sessions of chemotherapy and 30 sessions of radiotherapy which was totally successful in Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong (where I live). Although my oncologist told me it might take 6 months to get my appetite back, through a friends suggestion I started drinking naturally made turmeric tea and by the beginning of March was able to start eating normally. But in late April I developed non-allergic rhinitis and the treatment they gave me was Clarityne (10 mg tablets Laratidine) for my running nose and Hypromellose eye drops for my eyes. There has been absolutely no improvement whatsoever except when I saw my ENT specialist and oncologist yesterday they added some Piriton to the mixture and referred me to an eye hospital for my eyes. This is giving me untold misery and depression. Is there any other form of treatment? I am now losing my appetite as well.

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear that you're suffering from non-allergic rhinitis and I can imagine this must be getting you down.

I don't have any experience with this but I noticed that your post had gone unanswered. By replying to you it will 'bump' your post back to the top of the page where hopefully it'll be seen by someone who has some experience with this. I'm also tagging my fellow Community Champions and into this reply as they look after this group and might be able to help you further.

If you don't get any replies you could post your question in ask a nurse and one of the specialist nurses will aim to respond within 2 working days.
