Hi  - My husband has had a lump on is next for about 7 weeks, the doctor sent him to the hospital on a 2 week appointment. The consultant put a camera up his nose and down his throat. He says the lump needs futher investigation and ordered an ulta sound and biopsy.

We went to the hospital on Wednesday, unfortunately due to an admin error, a ten minute slot had been allocated and the radiologist needs 30 mins to do the biopsy. He goes this Friday for the biopsy.

I was not happy as the prolongs the agony to know what is going on.  I know this is human error, but, every day feels like 10 and after the biopsy we may have to wait another 2 weeks for the results!!

My husband had 4 biopsies taken last Friday 31/05/19; a week tomorrow, a very long week.  How long will we wait for the results and will we get an appt by phone or letter.

  • Hi Lulabelle

I waited for 2 weeks to get the results of my biopsy.  I received a letter from the hospital to confirm the appointment with the consultant to discuss the results and a treatment plan.

I wish you and your husband all the best.

  • Bit of a mystery to me why they need a 30 min appointment to do a needle biopsy, takes no time at all; the (often) accompanying ultrrasound takes little time either. The waiting is the difficult bit I'm afraid, everything crossed for you.

    Hi

My husband had biopsies the same day as yours, we just had a letter saying our follow up appointment is on the 18th June, seems like a long wait as probably like you we just want to know now. Although we are expecting from what we have been told and what we have seen that they will be confirming their suspicions in my husbands case as his tumour on his tongue was very big and he also has another in his neck.

I think the results from biopsies usually take about a week to get  to process and get back to the team then they have to discuss all the results at the MDT meeting then get you in for the appointment.

    Hope it’s quicker for you

  • Hi Yes  2 weeks from biopsies seems standard. My husband had biopsy from tongue and tonsils removed 2 days ago and we have been told 2 weeks for appointment to discuss - yes the waiting is awful.
