Just had mine checked as someone at an Heads2gether meeting said they had theirs done and it was low, the medication has helped them with the tiredness and lack of energy. Mine was low and have just got the pills so I am hoping it will help me as well (very quick, only had the blood test on Friday and sorted today over the phone), I am hoping it will give me a big boost.
My point is it could be a good idea to have it checked if you haven't as the symptoms are the same as with the after effects of radio, that is what I put mine down to i.e. not being able to eat much and so on. apparently the radio can affect the thyroid (no one has mentioned it to me) just phone your GP.
Hope this will help someone else and I will report on how I get on in a week or two.
Good info that Ron thanks.
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
Hello Ron.
You make an excellent point there. I had a similar experience. Mine wasn't diagnosed for several months as the symptoms got lost amongst the general fatigue after treatment, and my menopause which I was experiencing at the same time. I got diagnosed quickly and easily and found the medication made an immediate difference to me.
This is a known side effect of radiotherapy so it's a shame that some patients don't get routine checks. My GP seemed unaware of it until my Oncologist pointed it out.
Hope you see the benefits of the medication as quickly as I did.
Best wishes xx
Hi Ron. Good to hear you are feeling you can do more, but as you say it can be difficult to know if a particular thing is helping or if there is just general improvement anyway. I was lucky that they found my right dose at the first attempt. I didn't notice an instant change in energy levels when I started medication, it was more with me that symptoms like the dry skin, hair loss and brittle nails began quickly clearing up. I'd also been experiencing pins and needles and numbness in the feet and hands which stopped straight away with the tablets.
Someone in the group mentioned a while ago that they had been able to help their thyroid function with chakra healing. I had some of that done soon after my treatment and I was convinced that it was helping restore my energy levels. My Consultant was very sceptical at the time but I mentioned it to the GP recently and he said it wouldn't do any harm to try a few more sessions. So I will be doing that and if there is any improvement it will be measurable in my next blood test which is due this October.
Will let you all know how I get on with the chakra healing.
Best wishes x
