Hi my husband has had an enlarged lymph node in his neck k for around 8 weeks, we have been referred and had a ultrasound which confirmed one abnormal enlarged lymph node on the left side, he has been referred to ENT for a
biopsy but the Dr couldn’t see any lesion ulcer or anything to take a biopsy from. My husband has not had any other symptoms at all, no sore throat, no sore tonsil, no nothing. The Dr sat us down and said he couldn’t do the biopsy as they’re wasn’t anything to
biopsy but he was more than certain this is a tonsil cancer, we are now waiting for a MRI Scan Pet Scan and CT guided biopsy. Theres
allsorts going round in our minds, one being how can the dr be certain when he hasn’t biopsied anything! We have a return apptmon the 26th april but how we are going to get through the next two
weeks I’m not sure! Has anyone had any similar situations where there has been no other sign or symptom of anything wrong apart from The one swollen node??
Hi there. My own journey started with enlarged lymph nodes in the neck. I had been tired a few weeks earlier and just thought I was in need of a break. The nodes were biopsied using ultrasound. From this they were able to confirm that I had cancer although these were not the primary source. It took a few scans (CT MRI & PET) and biopsies of possible areas before they found it hidden at the base of my tongue. I’m now recovering after chemo & radiotherapy (no surgery).
Its an unsettling time while waiting for confirmation and then start of treatment. You have to try and stay positive and trust that your doctors are moving forward as fast as they can.
Bedt of luck
My hubby had an enlarged lymph node for a few weeks at the end of October, and had a biopsy which revealed carcinoma cells. He then had a CT / MRI / PET / Panendoscopy and the primary wasn't located. Initially he felt unwell for a week then normal again for a few weeks, and gradually more and more unwell as his lymph nodes began to fill up with cancerous fluid. After removing his tonsils (initially suspected to be the source of his cancer, but they were actually cancer-free), the docs think it was in the base of the tongue, but had been fought off by the body, and then the lymph node caught a few stray cells. He ended up having 51 neck nodes removed, and there was cancer in 9 of them. He has just finished radiotherapy and chemotherapy a week ago.
I can appreciate how you must be feeling, as that was me and him not very long ago! try to keep positive, and good luck for 26th April x
