My husband is now been given the all clear from throat/neck cancer after 5 years, which is great. He had to have a feeding tube at the time due to his throat becoming restricted due to the cancer and all of his back teeth taken out so they wouldnt hinder his treatment. His tube was finally removed approx 8 months after his treatment stopped. He has done really well but we found that eating certain foods, mainly meat became hard work, partly due to only having his front teeth to break it down and his throat although clear is a bit smaller than it was. I tried all sorts of ways of cooking meat but to no avail. After looking at all the different methods of cooking food, we decided to try a sous vide machine and he hasnt looked back. We cook all our meat in it now, including fish. The texture is so different from normal cooking and easy for him to chew and swallow. However, I will say that pork is still an issue ( it seems to be more fibrous than other meats) and he now eats really well.
I really wanted to share this with others that may be in a similar situation as I know how hard and frustrating it was back in the beginning when he started eating again, and just couldnt manage alot of the food. I can honestly say, eating does get better but it does take time.
I have found I can eat most/all meats if not over cooked, the hardest is chicken and I can't swallow them the next day unless they are cut very thin or small, we have worked out that as they cool down they get dryer and are difficult to get down, so just don't overcook and it's not so bad.
