Hello,
Can I ask how the lymph node/s in your neck responded to chemoradiotherapy and by when?
My husband’s node significantly reduced under chemo and a little further under chemoradiotherapy but 4 days since finishing treatment it’s still there, albeit small and maybe rougher in texture. Does it take a while for a lymph node to fully disappear or should that have happened by now? His cancer originated in his tonsil and is HPV+.
Thanks
Hi Jess18. I had a similar experience - large lymph node in neck went down dramatically during chemoradio treatment. But I could still feel a small swelling 3-4 weeks after treatment finished. I wondered if this was scarring. However, a few days later it was gone completely. So be patient. I was told something about HPV lymph nodes appearing to respond more slowly than non-HPV, but that might have been at the 12 week scan point. Either way - please be reassured that being able to feel something at 4 days is nothing too be concerned about. The radiotherapy will still be working for quite a while to come. Mine also originated in the tonsil.
best wishes to your husband for this recovery,
Hilary
Thanks so much, Hilary. We really appreciate your message.
There is so much info and medical papers out there about the different treatments, but very little about this particular aspect. It’s so valuable to hear from those who have experienced it first hand.
Have a lovely weekend.
Jess
