Evening all. Hoping to make contact with someone in a similar position who’s been told they can now drink but has no desire to!! Been looking forward to this for weeks so a bit disappointed. Any comments?
Hi Stuart
I loved my red wine and the occasional pint but after my surgery I lost all interest in alcohol.
Six years on I can open wine when we have company. Any left just goes to waste. I have developed a liking for real ale though. But the beer gives me a beer belly so having to reign that in. Just have a five o’clock gin with my wife at the weekends now.
It is not just alcohol where things have changed. I didn’t used to drink tea, only coffee. That reversed post op! My taste for coffee has returned plus I drink tea with breakfast and mid afternoon.
It is so strange how my tastes have changed! Is it the chemo or the surgery?
Early days for you. Things may well change!
Counting the days, making every day count.

Hi Stu, I was only an occasional drinker prior to surgery 3 years ago, I had been a heavy weekend drinker in my youth. I wasn't confident about going out socially for over a year, mainly due to food dumping. However in January 2018 I had a reason to go out drinking, and several pints later I had a great time. So try a few drinks and see if you enjoy it and the desire may return. Cheers Frank.
Thanks for the response Frank .... still grappling with soft drinks & tea though!!
