Hello,
Unfortunately I find myself here again asking for some help with my brother-in-laws health. Just to fill in he was diagnosed with gullet cancer in early 2017 had the cancer removed by 9 hour operation in July 2017 having had chemo before and after the operation. I believe his last chemo was in December 2017. I last posted a few weeks ago when he was getting ill, breathless and fatigued again and thankfully we managed to get him to go to his GP. His GP thought he had fluid on his lungs and also a lump. I would have thought he would have given him a course of diuretics such as furosemide but instead sent him for an X-ray and it has taken over 2 weeks to get the results. The results showed that he does have fluid on the lungs but it doesn't show what the lump is. On Wednesday he was given a quick 2 week referral to the respiratory clinic. Apparently he had a bad fall back in November and I think one of the reasons they didn't do anything sooner about this lump is because they thought it was something to do with the fall and it would go away. Of course my brother and I are both worried that this lump is possibly lung cancer. He has been a smoker most of his life - including smoking the "funny stuff" in the 60's but gave up 5 years ago so I suppose it could be on the cards. Just wondering if there is anyone who may have had a similar experience and if they could tell us what we can expect and also wondering what we should advise them to do because they will not ask.
Thanks once again for all your help.
Des
Hi Des
I'm sorry to hear that your brother-in-law is still unwell but that's good that he's been referred and hopefully they'll be able to get to the cause of his symptoms.
It's a good idea for your brother-in-law to have a list of questions ready when he sees the consultant and you might find this information from Macmillan on questions to ask your healthcare team helpful. It is a generic list so not everything might apply but hopeful he can pick out some relevant questions.
