Breast cancer mets to lungs and brain. Feeling hopeless.

I was diagnosed in 2020 with a small but very aggressive breast cancer with high oncotype score. Had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy - lymph node was said to be clear yet 7 months later it had spread to 3 nodes. Had axillary clearance which landed me in the hospital with sepsis. Decided I was too unwell for chemo following the sepsis. Recently had a CT scan showing mets to both lungs and brain. Has anyone had any positive results from chemo or alternative treatment? Or a combination of both? I am only 44 years old. I need to be here for my kids. Many thanks

  • Hi there, sorry to hear your diagnosis.

I just wanted to say, while I don't have brain mets,  I do have lung mets since 2021.  I was treated with 12 weeks of Taxol combined with herceptin and perjeta every 3 weeks, which I am still receiving and will indefinitely.  It took a good while but my mets eventually shrunk and on my last scan were not visible. I'm due another scan shortly so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I was also 44 with two young sons when first diagnosed so I understand your feelings. I hope I have given you some decent information and I wish you the best of luck with your treatment.

  • HI, I was diagnosed with with Lobular BC in Nov 2021, 2022 was a year of various treatments, chemo, bilateral mastectomy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapy, I was due to have Zometa for 3 years at 6 monthly intervals and was due to go back to work in April 2023 but in March 23 (2 days after my last treatment) I found I also had brain and lung mets……devastating news and could only think the worse, so now stage 4, palliative treatment with Enhertu every 3 weeks, I’m just past 3 years on it now and despite everything I have read it has been very kind and gentle to me and is doing is job well. I count my blessings every single day, 3 years ago I didn’t dare look this far ahead but I lead a very full, active and social life. I really do wish you well and hope your treatment does its job well and is kind to you too. Sending virtual hugs and hoping my positive post will give you positive thoughts for the future too.
