I was on letrozole but it gave me diarrhoea so it was changed to anastrozole but that’s the same, am frightened there is something wrong with my bowel. I have secondary breast cancer in my sternum but nowhere else and the only other meds is omeprozole for indigestion. Has anyone else suffered with diarrhoea and is there an alternative that stops the cancer spreading but doesn’t upset my stomach?

  • Have you tried anti-diarrhoea meds? Imodium might help? Check with onc before taking of course to make sure it's OK to take.

  • I had diarrhoea during chemo and used loperamide to control. Now that chemo has finished and having phesgo injection I was still getting bouts of diarrhoea- I was taking omaprazole also as taking naproxen. I have since stopped taking these tablets and had some improvement- I think the omaprazole if taken for a long period of time affects the good bacteria in your gut .

    Hope this is helpful

  • Thank you this does help, I was taking two omeprozole but have cut it down to one. For the first time since stopped taking anastrozole 4 days ago I have had two days without diarrhoea. Hope you are Ok hand, thank you for your positive feedback Ok hand

Spicegirl I  too have secondary in my sternum. I take abemaciclib which gives me diarrhoea. I would say its every other day as I take loperamide as soon as I have it to stop it sometimes take it twice but no more as it does work. I also take buscopan if stomach cramps bad. It does get me down but I'm trying to stay positive. I am currently trying a much blander diet to see if that helps I am keeping a diary of episodes and how frequent  the diarrhoea is it's a pain as I love my food but I think it's helping cutting out anything spicy. Good luck

  • Thank yes Onc has changed me to Aromasin and said take Imodium too, having to squat in a forest whilst walking the dog is not the life I want Flushed
