Hello

Well today, 4th March 2026, is the day!

I will be up at 5.15 to get myself to my daughter's by 6 and she will take me to hospital for my op.

This is the 2nd time I have had to look cancer straight in the eye and said "I can do this, I will not lose and coming 2nd in this battle is not an option"!

The first time was not as challenging as this one though.

I have Lobular Grade 3 which has spread to lymph nodes which are malignant and also a DCIS "simple undefined cancer".

Lovely surgeon (I have to say it is lucky he is lovely to look at considering I am allowing him to put a sharp scalpel in me), said the 2 cancers aren't too far apart so he thinks breast conservation Lumpectomy is worth a try first with full node removal.

So in a blur of feelings I agreed.

The only things I am fretting about is the drain because I have a form of arthritis and I am not sure if I will be able to manage emptying it by myself.

Anyway somehow, one way or another I will have to face that bridge when I come to it.

Then also the fact that despite being told I will be really poorly for a few days after my op and need someone with me - I will be discharged either later the same day or the next day!

After I get the results, because a cancer has spread to lymph nodes there is a strong chance chemo and radiation but that is for future weeks to deal with.

I am not sure how I am feeling - it is 2.25 in the morning and I have been awake for one and a half hours.

I suppose it is a case of going with the flow and hope this op works.

Best wishes, good luck and gentle hugs to anybody facing their op or any treatment today - we have got this and we will get through it xxx

  • Hugs to you and wishing you the best.  Take it easy and let yourself recover.
I only get to say this once a year but March 4th is the only day of the year that gives a command.  Just wanted to send you a smile.
Back in September 2021 got diagnosed with DCIS right breast and ER and PR Positive  invasive ductal cancer left breast stage 2 ( 3mm cancer and 6mm DCIS).  Had 2 lumpectomies and then radiation to both breasts and now on aromatase inhibitors for 5 years.
I am in Florida and about 10:30 pm here so late for you.

  • I hope everything goes smoothly for you today. You will be well looked after. x

  • Hope all goes well for you today. Its always such an early start isnt it?  I had my second bout of bc last year on the recovery trail now. Xx

  • Hello.
I hope that your operation went well. Get plenty rest, and take it easy.
Sending hugs and best wishes. xx

  • Hi, I hope you op went well. I had a mastectomy with drains but they didn’t need changing often and the nurses did that- so hopefully you won’t have that to worry about. Morphine was prescribed and I found that really good for the first week and then I didn’t need it so much - you have so much to deal with and sound so brave - be extra kind to yourself right now xxx mine had spread to lymph nodes and I had chemo and am now half way through radiation treatment which seems fine so far. I had a McMillan mentor that I spoke to once a week and found that so helpful- a safe space and person that I could share all my thoughts with- would highly recommend. I hope you are doing well and continue to feel better over the coming days . Sending lots of positive vibes to you Xx

  • Hi, I just want to say thank you so much for your messages and encouragement.  I was discharged home after a couple of days and my daughter is in charge of my drain.  It is so hard sitting doing not a lot because I am usually an active "on the go" all the time person.  My arm keeps tingling after my axillary nodes excision (I know some nodes are malignant) but I keep doing very gentle exercises to keep it moving.  I have dressings clinic on Thursday 12th March then see my lovely Consultant Surgeon for review on 27th March when I will receive the full results and proposed future treatment plan before I see my Oncologist.  It is all a bit daunting but I have survived so far - hopefully I can deal with whatever else the breast cancer team caring for me throw at me.  Gentle hugs everybody and thank you again cc
