Hi all,
Hope you're okay. I wanted to ask some advice. I have just got home from my 7th chemo session. My cold cap was the wrong size. I'm usually a medium and the nurse was told by a senior nurse to give me a medium but they gave me a large. I didn't realize until I took it off at the end. I am so so angry and in bits crying right now. I have worked so hard to get to this point and it could all be undone by a avoidable error.
Has anyone else had the same and how much hair did you lose?
Thank you,
Emma
Hi Emma
I am sorry that this has happened and that you were given a bigger size inner cap. I did scalp cooling in 2022 and I can understand your concern.
Although the inner cap was slightly bigger than your normal one I remember that when they put the outer cap on, they do pull it really tight to help keep the inner cap in contact with your scalp. Hopefully that will help reduce the risk of increased hair loss.
Well done for doing the 7 sessions so far- I know scalp cooling can be hard at times, along with chemotherapy. I would advise to follow your normal hair care that Paxman recommends and treat your hair as gently as possible. Hopefully enough of the cap was in contact with your scalp to minimise any further shedding.
Fingers crossed for you.
Jane
Thanks so much Jane. It still felt cold so I am hoping it will be enough to save most of it. I kept patting it down on my head throughout so really hoping the results are better than my fears. It's such a hard time where everything is out of your control and after 7 weeks I just wanted to keep this in my control
Thank you. I might not wash it this week just to help with shedding.
Hello!
I cold capped all the way through my chemo and it worked, but the last few sessions I became obsessed that the machines weren't working properly and were not cold enough, I was asking the nurse to check!!! After keeping most of my hair right through I kept thinking at the last hurdle it was all going to go!!! It obviously didn't but i think it is very easy when you are going through such a horrible time to get hung up on the worst case.....if it was tight under your chin and cold I am sure it will be fine - the size difference are probably quite minimal and you are quite far on so I think (i'm pretty sure my nurse told me) the loss of hair becomes less!
Try not to worry about it too much.
Xxx
