Hi, I’m about to start radiotherapy for any residual breast cancer. Any advice for side and long term effects would be welcome.
Hi Fozia
My biggest piece of advice is drink, drink, drink. I went at the same time for 15 sessions. 2 of us drank loads and 2 didn't. The 2 of us who drank a lot of fluids were fine. The other 2 suffered really badly with fatigue.
Follow their advice with making sure your breast is protected. I recommend something like aloe vera gel (not cream). Unless they recommend anything different - you can get it from Holland and Barrett quite cheaply.
I was also recommended a toothpaste from my dentist. Duraphat - she gave me a prescription. It was lucky I had an appointment just before radio started. No problems with my teeth since (I've seen posts with people having issues)
Hope this helps a little,
Kindest wishes, Lesley
Thank you that’s very helpful. If you don’t mind me asking, what did you experience with your teeth?
Hi Fozia
I didn't have any issues with my teeth. I'm guessing it was because I'd had the normal appointment for a check up with the dentist, just before I was starting radiotherapy and she gave me a prescription for Duraphat toothpaste and told me to use it from then on until I had finished the tube.
