Hi all!
I will start radiotherapy on 12/02 till 05/03. 15 sessions. I have been awake for 2 hours and it’s 5am.
Just a little anxious! After reading about side effects and long term ones.
I tell myself that not everybody reacts the same…
I have had a lumpectomy, 9 lymph nodes removed, a melanoma wide incision and 2 sentinelle nodes removed.
Now it is time for radiotherapy. I am more anxious for this than I have been for the previous surgeries. I have recovered very well.
What scares me the most it’s the fatigue…
Also which cream shall I use…. There seem to be quite a choise…I have been using Aveeno daily moisturising lotion for my breast and arm and I wonder if you can suggest something more specific for radiation treatment.
I also read that I could loose up to 10% of my weight! I am already quite slim and do not want to loose anymore!!!
Well, I had a cup of herbal tea and 1 egg on toast!
I hope to sleep for a couple of hours.
Hi Greenwater. I just finished my radio (right breast) last week and tho the first zap left me a bit swollen and sore, the following ones didn’t make things worse (I’d been worried there would be a cumulative effect of increased soreness but - unless I was just lucky - there wasn’t). I’ve also been slapping on Zerobase cream which was recommended by a friend after her double mastectomy. Really helped calm the heat especially cos I left it in the fridge - bliss - tho best not stored next to the Mayonnaise in case of mix up
All the very best with your zappery ️
Hi
I have my first oncology appointment next week I had right side mastectomy, do I have to hold my breath or is it just left side mastectomy?
Hi
i believe it is only for left sided surgery, same side as the heart.
I had right side mastectomy but still had to hold my breath .I was told approx 40secs ,but don't panic about that as if you can't do that much the machine stops when you take a breath .I couldn't do 40secs all the time ,and they just let me have a few breaths and then restarted machine when I was ready
Hi Shelly4
Don't worry if you can't do it if you need to. I had LH radiotherapy and should have done the holding breath technique, but due to an injury previously in my arm, it wasn't suitable for me. (they wouldn't be able to do the positioning for it). However, they weren't concerned in the slightest. They just said that they would need to do more calculations and I'm 7 years later with no side effects from not being able to do it.
Good luck with your radio.
Best wishes, Lesley
Hi Greenwater
I know where you're coming from.
Tomorrow I have to go see the Radiologist specialist to discuss a plan for Radiotherapy and my anxiety is sky high!!!
I have had a telephone consultation and it has been suggested to have 10 sessions but plans change!!
I use a combination of Aveeno and Nivea sensitive body cream alternatively (not together) after showers. Also moisturising body washes. I will be looking at bath products as I've had my PICC line removed a few days ago. But it is what suits you and your body type the best. I find Aveeno is alot better that Nivea as I seem to apply Nivea more.
All the best
