Hi - yesterday I was diagnosed with breast cancer. 6cm tumour that has spread to 1 lymph node. I now need a CT scan to see if the cancer has spread. I was prepared for the breast cancer diagnosis and positive that it could be treated but now I am so scared that if it’s spread my outcome could be very different. The waiting for tests is so hard, I can’t sleep or eat and I know that I need to do both to stay well. Anyway be with experience of this, advice or guidance please let me know.

  • Thank you, just a time of worry and stress.  Things happen quickly you worry, things don't happen quickly you worry!  Probably going to be a normal part of life for the foreseeable future!

  • Hi Pepper79  so sorry to hear about your diagnosis, it is a scary time, especially when first diagnosed. I was diagnosed in January with triple positive invasive ductal carcinoma, with 1 lymph node affected. I spent the first couple of weeks in a high state of anxiety,  struggling to eat or sleep. I then decided that I could not live with this level of anxiety over the next few months. So I decided to take control by cutting all alcohol, eating healthily and walking with hubby 2 1/2 miles every day (great for the mindset). It made me feel more relaxed and in control of what was happening.

I went through 7 cycles of chemo and also have phesgo injections. I continued walking througout chemo and had minimal side effects, apart from hair loss, which did make me cry a little.

I had a mastectomy with diep flap reconstruction a couple of weeks ago, which I am now recovering from. I will need a second surgery later to reduce the healthy breast. Not sure yet if I will be having radiotherapy. I have seen the plastic surgery team since my op who have been checking my wounds. Today I have an appointment with breat surgeon for post op assessment. Have to say I am nervous about this appointment, as they will let me now results of how surgery went. They also did full node clearance instead of partial and I don't know why.

I know how hard it is waiting for test results, but you do get used to it. I wish you well on your journey moving forward.  If you have any questions feel free to keep in contact. Xx

  • Thank you for your message. I really hope your post op assessment meeting went well.
Today I went for walk with a friend and tried to not to dwell too much on what is happening, it did make me feel better, I am going to walk daily. Now got too put ok a brave face for trick or treating!

  • Thank you for the advice, I chased and have got an appointment for tomorrow!

  • oh that's brilliant, time is everything

  • I hope your meeting went well today, I also had full node clearance when only one was affected but I was advised that's so they can make sure and in case it spreads further between the scans and the op.

  • Hi Pepper79, my post op assessment went really well. They took out 20 lymph nodes none of which showed any cancer, even though one was cancerous before chemo. Also, there was no sign of the two tumours, or any cancer cells in any breast  tissue. I will still have radiotherapy as a precautionary measure and reduce the risk of cancer coming back. I hope this result gives you some reassurance with what can be done and the good results that can be achieved. Xx

  • Hi Daisy24, that sounds like such a positive meeting and you must be over the moon and so relieved. Thank you - that gives me such a boost to hear positive news like that.

  • What brilliant news Daisy24 so pleased for you

  • Thank you, it actually all feels a bit surreal at the moment. Xx
