Hi - yesterday I was diagnosed with breast cancer. 6cm tumour that has spread to 1 lymph node. I now need a CT scan to see if the cancer has spread. I was prepared for the breast cancer diagnosis and positive that it could be treated but now I am so scared that if it’s spread my outcome could be very different. The waiting for tests is so hard, I can’t sleep or eat and I know that I need to do both to stay well. Anyway be with experience of this, advice or guidance please let me know.
Hi pepper, first of all huge hugs xx I was diagnosed 4 years ago and had grade 3 cancer, my tumour was 22mm and had spread to one lymph node. Waiting for the ct scan results was so stressful but mine was clear and fingers crossed if it’s only gone into one lymph node yours will be too.
Thank you so much for replying.
Mine is grade 3 as well. The waiting is so hard, I just want to get started on treatment and I was so shocked when they told me that if the cancer has spread they don’t do a mastectomy, they treat it palliatively so having a clear CT scan is so important to me right now x
If I was you don’t wait to receive the ct scan appointment but get on the phone and push for it, I managed to get an appointment two weeks earlier by pushing. My oncologist did ring me as soon as he had the results though which happened to be on my sons 12th birthday, my ct and mri was clear thankfully. Normally the cancer team meet once a week and discuss the results and planned treatments of all their patients, the earlier you can get your scan the earlier you will have your treatment planned x let me know when you get your scan, it gets easier when you know what you’re dealing with
Hi Pepper, I know exactly how you are feeling, I get the results of my CT and MRI scans tomorrow. I have convinced myself that the nurse that was with me during the CT scan looked at me with concern and sadness in her eyes as if they could see that the cancer had spread. It was also mentioned that they will do a bone scan but that hasn't happened.
Trying to stay positive and trust the process and the experts but it isn't easy. I had the MRI and CT scan 6 days after the initial diagnosis and the results 9 days after that.
Wishing all the best x
I know, I read so much into the way they look at me and act. I really hope you have positive news today.
Hi harvestmoon don’t read anything into the way they look at you, I had to go to my appointments on my own due to Covid then they told me that I should bring my husband with me to the appointment to get my scan results, I had convinced myself that that meant it had spread but it hadn’t. Hoping you get good news today
Thank you, I want thinks to happen quickly but when they do it is equally scary as then my brain says omg it must be really serious.
Hope you hear some news soon
