Hi there
It's been over a month since my 5days of radiotherapy on my mastectomy side and still not healed, my burns have calmed down but the itching is driving me mad, anyone else? Xx
Hi, I'm one of the champions here in this group and wanted to acknowledge your post. I didn't have ongoing itching, but I did develop lymphoedema post radiotherapy. I think there's a lot of focus and discussion on chemo side effects, but I have to admit, I was completely unprepared for the ongoing late effects of radiotherapy.
Our hospital has a “late effects team” so might be worth asking if you have anything like this nearby to get some advice. Best wishes
Hi, I was interested in your answer about the “ late effects team”. I had 2 nd degree burns immediately following radiation. That was treated with daily clinic dressings, & medication. It took around 6 weeks to heal. That was Feb 24. Fast forward to Jan 25 when I developed a nasty extremely itchy rash on my forehead, so I didn’t link it to radiation. Thus far I’ve had several similar breakouts in different parts of my body. The itching & discomfort drive me doolally.I’ve systematically stopped all my meds at different times thinking it could be side effects. I have Rh arthritis so the meds for that depression my immune system ( Covid was a hoot). I saw my GP 2 weeks ago who discussed side effects of RA med V late effects of radiation. He thought there’s a possibility that radiation may have triggered a reaction with my immune system. I stopped the meds , again, but now have another breakout on 1 arm so now I’m leaning towards late radiation effects. I honestly didn’t expect this, can’t remember if it was one of the topics discussed with me ( so much to take in post diagnosis isn’t there?). So, what to do now? Is this something that could be treated or do I have to accept it. I’m not fussy on chasing it up if there’s nothing I can do anyway. Do most hospitals have a late effects team?
