Hi everyone
I had my lumpectomy and SNB on 14 December and the hospital have told me that I'll start my radiotherapy in three months.
I feel that that's quite a long time.
Can anyone tell me how long they waited for radiotherapy treatment after surgery please ( without chemo).
Thanks xx
Hi Mumpsy,
I'm in a similar situation - I had initial surgery on 16/11/23 then a second surgery on 7/12/23 as one of the margins wasn't clear. Got my results on Friday 22/12 - margin was clear this time and no chemo required. I was told I would have radiotherapy 6 - 8 weeks after my second surgery. However I've only just got my oncologist appointment through today for the 5th February, and have been told it will be 6-8 weeks after that before I start radiotherapy. Apparently the recommended timeframe between surgery and radiotherapy is 3 months, but I will be a couple of weeks over that.
It's very frustrating as my husband and I have put off a trip to visit my daughter in New Zealand, following my diagnosis last October. We were hoping to go once my radiotherapy was finished but it will be too late by then as they will be coming into winter. I'm going to spend all night that money to have more winter weather!
I'm just wondering whether it's possible to pay privately to have it done and how much it would cost. Probably unaffordable for us.
Best wishes,
Horse Diva
What a shame!
Three months is so long! I'll look into the costs of having it done privately but I think you're right, it will probably be astronomical xx
Hi Mumpsy, I had surgery beginning of June and radiotherapy started 12 weeks later. I feel for you as waiting always seems to be the worse throughout the threads that have been commented on. I guess that each hospital/area is different as my 12 weeks is normal where I am, didn't need chemo and was 'ok' to wait, it did give my body a chance to recover too. Hope you get a date set so you can relax a bit. x
I had my lumpectomy in October and not started radiotherapy yet. I have been told it will be soon but I think there is a huge backlog at the moment.
It's doubly frustrating as my daughter is only out there until the end of August this year so this is our only chance.
I hope your appointments come through a bit quicker than they say - fingers crossed for both of us . Xx
