Hi, I have been on anastrozole for 4 months. I had her2 positive breast cancer and had chemo/lumpectomy/radiotherapy. Since going on the hormones, I have had very bad muscle pain. Had my last Herceptin injection last Thursday, this normally throws me for a couple of days. I spoke to the registrar for the third time about the hormones (felt fobbed off the previous two times) and she told me to take a two week break. That was on Thursday and it’s Tuesday now and the pain is so much worse, unbearable. Could this be me detoxing? Anyone else had a similar experience?
Hi Dasuat
I was on anastrozole for 5 years and for me, luckily I didn't have too many side effects. I got given a different brand of anastrozole once and the side effects hit within a day! Some side effects can persist for a little while and nerve issues etc is one of them. It could, I guess, also be connected to your Herceptin? (I didn't need this as I was only ER+).
If it's any help, I researched the coatings of the tablets and some of them were significantly different. I could take Accord and Teva, but the Consillient Health had large differences in the coatings which knocked me for six when I took them. After that, I got my doctor to write on the prescription "Accord brand only". (I tested it twice and both times I had really bad muscle pain within a day or so - soon as I changed back to Accord, I was fine).

Here's a link to the drugs and their price. You can research each tablet to see the contents of their coating and as long as it isn't 'overpriced' you can ask for it to be prescribed for you. It's worth testing different brands to see if one is better suited to you. You might also need to find the pharmacy which will use that brand too.
Hope this helps a little.
Kindest Wishes, Lesley
Thank you, hopefully whatever they switch me to will be better. I’ll keep the coating in mind. Good to know it worked for you, 5 years is a long time!
