Did anyone else already have supra clavicular lymph nodes (collar bone) at the time of diagnosis?
It is fairly rare so there is not a clear guideline on whether radiotherapy is enough or if surgery improves outcome.
I have a rare, aggressive type called invasive micro papillary, with lots of axillary lymph nodes and two supra clavicular ones. This puts it at stage 3c. I am hormone positive, HER negative.
I am in the middle of chemo, then will have full mastectomy and axillary clearance then radiotherapy, but there is conflicting information about removal of the collar bone lymph nodes.
I would be interested to hear of anyone’s experience and treatment, thanks in advance.
Hey there I’m in same boat but triple positive so our treatment process different . They don’t like to touch neck if possible and generally use boost radiotherapy . I had twenty rads including boost to supraclavicular and it’s very effective . I did get sore on the neck boost but the cream they give brilliant and wound healed up in two weeks so don’t worry . You right about it being a rare area of spread but nowadays very effective treatment .hope you feeling ok and not too upset . It’s a tricky diagnosis as you sitting on fence between stage 3 and 4 but we in good position with treatment options and just take it bit by bit xxx
Thanks, it’s good to hear from someone in the same boat. Yes, just taking it bit by bit, praying for a good outcome.
Good luck in your journey x x
Hiya I also stage 3 c, supraclavicular nodes at time of diagnosis. I am also hormone positive her negative. It looks like I am having surgery to the beck to remove nodes. I am having last round of chemo on thurs I have had 4 rounds of ec followed by 4 rounds of paclitaxel. I have mastectomy booked for june the 13th. Im 37 feel free to add me as a friend. Best wishes Crystal
Hi, Crystal, thanks for replying. It is good to hear from others going through the same. I am a good bit older than you, 52, and post menopausal, so my later treatment will be slightly different. I have had 4 EC then start 4 docetaxol this week, so don’t finish till late July, then surgery a month later, mastectomy and axillary clearance. I am quite keen to get the neck lymph nodes dissection done but the surgeon is reluctant, he is going to discuss with the wider team. Can I ask where you’re based? I am in Glasgow.
Not sure I know how to add friends on here, but will try!
Thanks, Eileen x
I was told the radiotherapy vey effective with supraclavicular nodes and so far so good however I did have stiff neck lately so guess it’s a learning curve as to noticing long term efffects and worry if a recurrence . I’m ok with effects but still at stage wondering if thickening or sore bones a sign of recurrence …they don’t tell you this as I’ve also inflamnatory arthritis ..only turned 50 and diagnosed at 47 .rubbish stage 3 c …
Thanks, Lovejellies. I have been reading lots of papers about it, but because it’s pretty rare, they never have great numbers to show statistical significance. Breast surgeons don’t seem keen on neck dissection but others like ENT/maxillofacial/plastics would favour it more. The worry of a recurrence is huge. The numbers don’t make great reading. Rubbish stage 3c, indeed! X x
