Hi
Got a cold sore, appeared yesterday. Is this an issue while on chemotherapy? I do usually get them in the sun, have done for years!
Hi Gander welcome to the forum. As far as I am aware cold sores are part and parcel of chemo, unfortunately. However, if you tell them at the chemo unit that this is happening for you they should be able to maybe prescribe something for you to use to alleviate this for you.
Hi Gander, I had a wicked cold sore after cycle 2 (TCHP) which apparently is normal as we are run down. It took about 5wks to clear properly. I tried to keep it dry, but when it looked a bit angry I went back & forth between an antibiotic ointment & cold sore cream. Not pleasant, and difficult to manage due to having to eat!!

Before I started chemo, I told the onco that I was susceptible to cold sores and they give me 3 weeks supply of acyclovir with my meds every time. So far no break outs! It’s worth a call to your BCN who can arrange for you to have some issued on your next session. They can make you so miserable; just another thing to be peed off about! Best of luck xx
