Anyone else suffering from bladder infections during and after breast cancer treatment ?
I am now on my third round of anti biotics since November .
Today I was given a week of Nitrofurantoin .
Previously I was given 3 day courses of Trimethoprim. Found the infection went but obviously just came back .
Hopefully this new AB and having a week of treatment will see the back of it .
Anyone else with a similar story ?
Penelope
I'm sure one of the ladies on the Awake thread had similar issue.
its a long thread do just jump to last post and hit reply & ask.
Hopefully, this is a link to the AWAKE thread....
I used to get a lot of mild bladder infections and then a couple of full blown awful ones that needed antibiotics, in quick succession. I did a bit of research and found a d-mannose supplement. I take it daily as a maintenance, once I was no longer feeling that stinging sensation, and I have been infection free ever since using it, including all throughout chemo. In fact, a few years ago, I did stop using it for maybe a year or so and I got another bladder infection that needed antibiotics. Lesson learned!
I checked with my oncologist that it was fine to take during chemo.
I take d-mannose in a pure powder form in a drink of water as I find the pills can bloat my tummy with whatever filler they use.
Another vote for d-mannose. Frequent cystitis (pre cancer diagnosis) and antibiotics that didn't work, led me to do my own research. I'm not sure why d-mannose is not being prescribed by GPs? Since finding it, I haven't had any infections (4+ years). I use in tablet form and buy from amazon. I only use them when I sense something is wrong. Obviously, check with a health professional before taking - just speaking from personal experience which I'm happy to share as urine infections are AWFUL.
Right , thank you for the tip . Will get straight on those once I finish my AB.
Knew someone on here would have advice !
Peace

Another vote for d-mannose. Has always worked for me. I've recently seen Holland & Barrett sell it too. Good luck
Great ! Thank you Pangles. Even easier as there is a local Holland and Barrett within walking distance to me.
Not sure if it’s this particular AB or just the fact I have slowed down after the relentless appointments , surgery , RT but I am exhausted ! My body aches like it has done a major gym workout ( LOL)
Probably to be expected , our bodies get punished in this journey.
Peace

Hi
I had a few after I finished chemo was given the 3 day antibiotic which cleared them up at the time then read on this site about
d-mannose bought them but only take if I feel one coming on and it does the trick. Does anyone have smelly wee first thing in the morning don’t know if it’s one of the tablets that I’m taking is causing it doesn’t smell at all after that. I am not very good at drinking water will need to try and drink more.
take care
Anne xx
