Hi Lotaz, it certainly does feel like a relief when you can forget about work for a while. It sounds like you definitely made the correct decision for yourself. I am having chemo on my other breast at the moment and expect some more RT at the end. Will be interesting to see if they think 5 or 15. You take care and get plenty of rest for vet the next few weeks x
Hi CS82, I think some oncologists have different preferences but I will be having RT on my other breast in a few months and I will raise this as a question. I’m sorry I was on Anastrozole as post menopause but do ask about benefits/risks of starting the medication after rads. Xx
Hello, I bought dr organic organic aloe vera skin lotion and Holland & Barrett certified aloe vera gel, 100% naturally derived ingredients, both from H&B. I mixed the two together, but when I got an itchy patch, put extra aloe vera gel on. I also used a bit of e45 lotion. As for work, I'm retired so didn't have thar issue, but what I would say is go with the flow if you can, as I'm sure you'll have good days and crappy days. Wishing you all the best.
Thanks Gazeebo - think I'll get some aloe vera gel to keep in the fridge as well as the creams I've already got & keep everything crossed that I don't have too much skin damage. I do burn easily in the sun but not sure that makes any difference.
Work I can just decide as I go - they are very supportive & I'm lucky that I get generous sick pay so don't have to worry about that side of things at the moment.
Hi all, thought I'd say hello, I have 3 paclitaxel chemos to go and have an appointment with my oncologist on Thursday to discuss my planned radiotherapy. Initially I was told I'd just be having five sessions on my right breast- I had a lumpectomy with no lymph node involvement in August, so I'm hoping that's still the case.
My last chemo is 9th Feb so I expect my radiotherapy to start 3-4 weeks afterwards according to my oncologist nurse. Will the planning scan etc be done during this time?
I can't believe I'm approaching this stage now, back in June when I was first diagnosed it seemed a long way away.
Hi
Welcome
Your planning scan will be a couple of weeks before you start your radiotherapy treatment.
Your oncologist will talk you through the radiotherapy process and risks and benefits and refer you to radiotherapy. The RT staff will then contact you with your planning dates. At your planning scan they will give you your treatment appointments.
take care
Hi everyone, I'll read the whole thread at some point - I see some names I know, which is nice, just sorry about the crap circumstances. I have radiotherapy planning meeting Friday. I will be having 15 sessions. I'm home a few minutes ago from being overinflated by the breast care nurse in readiness (I had implant). She injected the saline into something, I daren't think what, that wasn't my saline port, so had to have another go. She said it was only the second time in her career she'd done that. Sigh. x
Hi
I just found this thread after posting a question regarding rt and work. I think I should have posted it here.
I will be having 5 days rt imid February. I had a therapeutic mammoplasty in December and started letrozole just short of 4 weeks ago.
My sick note expires on Monday and I have a back to work call with my boss tomorrow.
The effects of letrozole have been extreme tiredness and over the last week cold hands and feet with just the odd hot flush - a strange combination when they happen together.
My rt appointments are unlikely to be at the same time so although I only live 20 mins away from the hospital, it will make planning difficult. I work as a project manager.
Do I go back to work and risk having to go off sick in a couple of weeks. I have a long awaited family holiday in 2 weeks with all 4 of my grown up kids plus hubby and I hope the rt starts the week I return.
I know this is trivial in the grand scheme and I have been very pragmatic through all the clinical stuff but i am getting into a complete tizzy about this and feel quite upset.about this. I feel I should get back to work .
Have people worked through 5 days rt and managed any side effects while working..
I need to decide what to do....help.
