Hello

I've just been diagnosed with invasive ductal cancer grade 3 triple negative I'm so scared is anyone going through the same?

  • I think the travelling every day will be tiriing but has to be done.  Yes will be starting on Tamoxifen soon as pre-menopausal before cancer hit and then oncologist said she will arrange b.t in 6 months to see if menopausal and change to a different drug.  Not looking forward to side effects but my cancer is high risk recurrence due.to.size and lymph nodes, so will take anything that may help and will just have to deal with the crap side effects if and when they happen xx

  • let’s hope side effects not too bad then . At least theee is some medication that will help keep it away .    Xx

  • Hi Mel

did your oncologist give you recurrance statistics (if you wanted to know). I’ve looked at mine on nhs predict (also Pre-menopause/lymph node positive), but it doesn’t allow for radiation to be input, progesterone receptor status or AI and ovarian suppression, so just wondered if they provide anything more accurate?

I see mine next Thursday for the first time.

  • Hi Hel , I have TNBC and the recurrence statistics were given to me as 40%. But I think that is mainly because there is no targeted treatment as it is all negative for receptors .  It so worth asking your oncologist as I also asked about survival rates and he was very honest with me .  Xx

  • Thanks- there’s just no ‘good one’ to have is there. I’ve read tnbc and HER2 are high risk first five years so you can breathe a bit easy after that….whereas hormone positive, lower risk initially but the rate of relapse stays constant for 20/30 years. So more treatable but less curable. Think I’ll wake up for the rest of my life thinking ‘is today the day’. Only comfort I take is that it seems more likely to be ok than not for most of us at high risk. X

  • That’s all we can hope really . Everything has changed for us from now on .  My oncologist also told me that TNBC has a high chance of recurring elsewhere in the body and can be less treatable then . But your right TNBC is most at risk of recurrence in first 3 years then goes down a bit and if got to 5 years then goes down again .   I think risk factors are also influenced by stage and grade of the primary cancer Treatments are also developing all the time .   Keep strong xxx

  • Hi Hel39, no oncologist hasn't told me statistics.  I went on the predict website, worst thing I did but then saw in red writing on it maybe not suitable for cancer bigger than 50mm and mine was much bigger so not sure how accurate it is.  To be honest I would rather  not know xx

  • Yeah, I do know what you mean. I try to bear in mind that they have now added ovarian suppression and aromatise inhibitors to treatment and jt doesn't account for this (only based on tamoxifen for the hormone button).

I still don’t know if to ask lots of questions, which won’t change the outcome, ir just take my treatment plan and hope for the best. X
