Breast care nurse contacted with results- no doctors appointment, is this normal?

I was given results over the phone by a nurse.

think you’ll find you will have been passed to the oncologist now . They will / should have all your answers . Maybe the questions you were asking were to do with oncology and that’s why the nurse wouldn’t be able to answer your questions . 
I know the waiting is awful but once you meet with your oncologist things will fall into place . If after your meeting / telephone consultation, you have forgotten to ask a question , just phone your oncologists secretary and they will pass a message to your oncologist , who will usually return your call with answers .

Oh really? Thank You for replying! Must depend on hospitals

Thank you for your reply Ruby. It’s just that the oncologist appointment is all the way on the 20th of this month. and just read a few things on the pathology report that scared me- one of them being ‘ vascular invasion present’. 

so it’s confusing as chemotherapy was not offered. But seems as though the cells are going round 

When I had my check up 6 weeks after mastectomy, my plastic surgeon said , something was seen on my spine when the did scan before surgery to check on my blood vessels for reconstruction . I would find out more at my oncology appointment - I had 2 weeks of hell worrying about that ! Turns out it was something like a freckle and nothing to worry about . It was my oncologist who explained everything . Plus treatment plans change , I thought I would get radiotherapy but I didn’t but I got 6 rounds of chemo . Again oncologist explained everything. 
I know the waiting is hard we all go through hell waiting .

it’s just confusing as never experienced this , and I was assuming the surgeon would explain. So the surgeon only deals with the surgery I guess? And then after surgery he discharges to the oncologist who answers any questions and explains things 

and also the oncologist can change the treatment plan although the mdt had already done a treatment plan? 

it’s going to be a tough wait as it’s already been  2 months since the op! 

Had you had an oncotype test? 

No , I didn’t have an onco type test . I have written in my profile about me . 
I finished treatment in august 2018. 3 yrs with no evidence of disease. 
I believe you can only be under one consultant at a time . Firstly it was the surgeon then plastic surgeon then oncologist . Although they do all have to do with your care through the MDT .

I got my pathology result from a BCN and she was great. I had a little specially designed results booklet to take away which showed everything and explained what it all meant with my results written in there.

For my biopsy at the beginning, I was given official cancer diagnosis and results over the phone by a BCN. I knew I was getting the results over the phone and when that would happen, she was bang on time and I was grateful for the phone call rather than going back in to hospital as my husband was there. 

If you already have an oncology appointment in the diary and not all results were back yet, then I'd be inclined to wait until then - if you have a good idea of most of your results now then calling might not give you any further info, but you should always feel that you can call your medical team, it is what they are there for and none of them will be offended.

Your oncologist will talk you through your treatment and side effects etc and you can ask all your questions then if you are able to wait.

So happy for you that you got the clears  for 3 years, chemo is harsh but at least it’s clear
