Hello everyone,

First time post for me- I am 34 years old and was diagnosed with Grade 3 Triple Negative BC in Jan this year. Following six months of chemotherapy, I had a single mastectomy and LN removal almost a fortnight ago. I’m doing my absolute best to exercise the affected area as per instructions from the breast care team i.e my arm and shoulder following my op but I am finding it difficult (especially the advanced exercises) and my armpit is completely numb. If anyone has had the same surgery, how long did it take before you started to regain feeling and use your arm fully? Thank you.

  • Thanks a.  I seem to be on here twice..as Boaterry and Rybarr.  Sorry folks.  Will try and sort.

  • I’m 11 weeks post same op. My shoulders ache still and I can’t yet sleep on that side yet. I had a lot of fluid but that has now stopped. Still swollen across chest and abit of excess skin under my arm side of where boob was. Exercises were ok for me just tight. I massaged my armpit when showering as told it would help. I still have pain at my elbow too. However it gets easier every week. I swim everyday which really helps. I found being fitted with a proper prosthesis and bra helps with my aching shoulders. I do have a numb areas behind top of arm and my back is tender under shoulder blade. Try to keep stretching the armpit to avoid chording. I’m doing normal stuff now. I waited till 8 weeks before ironing hoovering and swimming.

  • Hello!  At last, I've found someone  who's had the same as me.  Thank you so much for telling me your story..very similar if not the same.  I get my results back from the lymph node clearance tests a week on Friday .  The top of my arm is quite painful at the moment and I only had the drain taken out on Tuesday which has made things more comfortable.  The bruising is a nuisance but I intend to get my arm moving more ASAP.

Thank you again and let's keep in touch.

  • Hi. My chest scar still feels weird/tight and I have some pain front of armpit but it has improved so much. I had one node out of 23 with cancer and had to decide if to have chemo and I opted to pay for the Oncotype test which came back 11/100 so no chemo for me just 5 days of radiotherapy.
good luck with your results and chin up it does get easier.

  • Certainly hope so..I'm only 9 days out of surgery.

Good to hear your experience on the oncotype test too.
