Here's a new thread for chemo discussions this June, as the existing threads were getting a little long.
Please do let us know if you have any other threads you think would be useful to link here.
Hi BelleStar Herceptin alone was just an injection for me although they also did what they call ‘obs’. Recording my weight, blood pressure, heart rate etc. They didn’t want blood tests before each session either. Yay! Some people have it as an infusion through a cannula. If that’s you maybe they could be persuaded to change it? Mine has been a needle into the thigh from the start. The injection took 10 mins. The whole thing took about 50 minutes total. I’m going into the hospital for it. A lot of people here are visited at home by a nurse who gives them the injection. I go back to work tomorrow after two weeks off. Didn’t achieve that much while on holiday in spite of my plans because I felt rotten! Sadly it is easier for me to work when I’m below par than try something new. It’s not really free time when you feel unwell. Perhaps you’ll be able to do more once you get past chemo? Not long now xx
Hi everyone
I’ve had my third AC of 4 on Friday and am in the connected reflux/ nausea/ constipation triangle, all kind of vaguely under control but noticed a white tongue yesterday. I’ve spoken with GP who has sent me nystatin drops and I’ve started on salt water rinses. The GP said ok to try nystatin but the fact it’s widespread and not in the places where you usually get oral thrush means more likely a chemo thing. I’m on a lot of antibiotics to keep a lung condition under control during chemo and probiotics seem to be out. Taking senna, laxido, omeprazole etc as well as Ondansetron & domperidone. Just wondered if anyone had any tips or comparable experiences.. and is it just a chemo thing? Thank you xx
Hi Historywoman, I had a white furry, slimy tongue at one point. Very unpleasant! I was prescribed Nystatin over the phone and it really seemed to help. The problem came back the next cycle and the doctor looked at my mouth and said it wasn't thrush so wouldn't prescribe Nystatin and it did clear up by itself. So I'm not sure if the Nystatin had helped before or if it just cleared up in the 7 days I was taking it...
Hope it clears up soon
Lynne xx
Thank you Lynne, that’s helpful & echoes what my GP said. I’ll keep on taking the nystatin now I have it. Then see what new delights future cycles bring xx
Is there a September chemo thread now Lynne, not been on for a week as been on holiday?
Hope everyone who’s had chemo this week is managing SE well and doing okay?

Wishing you all peace and calm in the storm...with a helping of laughter and joy to bring healing ️
Hello yes I moved there, glad to find Lynne there but missing the rest of you.
xx
Hi, yes there is s new thread. I might go and have a look... Feel a bit in limbo at the moment. Finished the chemo. Had surgery, waiting for the radiotherapy (probably). There isn't a surgery thread as such. Which is a real shame as I've found this step really challenging especially emotionally and had a few questions and panics. Some I've put up as separate questions on the forum in order to get advise and support. I guess it's good they start new threads every now and then as one group work through chemo and others start. Then the newbies can support each other through it. All the best and thanks everyone who's kept me going. I couldn't have done this on my own. Best wishes.
I’m finding all the new threads confusing, although that may be my chemo brain! I’m trying to keep and eye on them especially the September radiotherapy as I’ve found out I will be starting on 23/09. I have 3 weeks whole breast and one week targeted. It’s happening quicker than I expected. I remember a longer gap between surgery and chemo. Hope everyone is doing well as we continue, or move on from chemo.
BelleStar how are you getting on? If my calculations are right you only have one Paclitaxel left. This was about the worst time for mexx
Hi CoffeeFiend – so well remembered, thank you! Yes one Paclitaxel next Wednesday and I'm actually looking forward to it (almost). I'm not sure if it's the worst time but my energy is definitely just about used up. I feel I'm barely holding things together – stomach, nails, skin, anaemia, stress levels – but planning to start patching myself up once I get past the chemo finish line. It's weird moving onto a whole new mysterious chapter after being an expert – I hope RT feels like a treat after chemo and the daily hospital trips aren't too much of a pain. The next for me is surgery but like you it's happening much sooner than expected (estimated 2-3 week gap) and I'm keen for info but finding navigating new threads confusing.
Re surgery, I'm anticipating a lumpectomy but they are unable to confirm that yet, and in general it's difficult getting an idea of what to expect, especially in the days and weeks afterwards. Iblodwin is that right there is no surgery thread anywhere - can we start one? And did you manage to get answers to your questions? And is there a search facility on here - or can anyone remember roughly what day there was a super-useful discussion about post-surgery bra recommendations?!
Anyway CoffeeFiend, I hope you are enjoying an albeit quite short holiday from treatments and getting all your strength back XX
