Head coverings and headaches

Hi all!

I'm about 3 weeks into Hair loss, had a number 2 shave on March 15th....

I have tried all sorts of head covering but seem to have a near constant headache from them, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Many thanks

Hi LHM welcome to the forum and I am sorry to hera how difficult things are trying to find a good fit for you in the hat department. Ive not heard of this before do you feel that you want to wear a hat or would you be up for just being without a hat at all? It may be the best answer for you if you cant tolerate that on your head and hopefully this is a short term thing and may resolve itself when chemo finishes.

  • Hi

It may be your scalp is still very sore if you are still-losing hair, so may improve over the next week or so- I couldn’t bear anything on my head, so only put a wig on when I went out or to work, it was winter so I could get away with a lovely woolly bobble hat my friend bought me, summer might be more problematic? I never tried them but the bamboo hats seem popular? I did ditch my wig and go out with no hair, it took a bit of courage initially but it was truly liberating - except where does your makeup end on your face with no hair line!

    Hope this helps

When my scalp was really sore after the shave the only think I could really tolerate was a bamboo beannie as it didn’t pull on the hairs that were left. Now that most of it has gone I find I can wear lots of different scarves and hats. I’ve only worn my wig once but my scalp was still too sensitive.

Witch hazel gel really soothes and feels blissful when you’re sore. Hope it eases soon.

  • Thanks Jo, that gave me a smile Blush

  • Hi Ruby, my scalp is definitely itchy but I also have an actual headache which feels like pressure from any type of head covering even though my wee silk lined beanies are very loose. Could just be a tension headache....

    Many thanks
