Feeling strangely calm after diagnosis

I was diagnosed last Friday with oestrogen and pregesterone positive breast cancer no her

It probably seems strange to say it but since diagnosis a total calm has comer me I was really freaking out on my three week wait for results to the point I was nearly having panic attacks but now I know i feel back in control ive had a few teary moments and a few angry why me moments but im doing ok

It helps that my surgeon is the same one I had my for total duct extraction operation last year, hes really nice and takes time to explain everything in an understandable way im not good with anything medical and this has really helped to calm my nerves with upcoming appointments and surgery

Next step is an mri (which im not looking forward to )

Im just going to take one day at a time and one appointment at a time and try not to think too far ahead

Sending love to everybody Heart️

  • Hi Charden

Welcome to the forum, I'm Daisy53 one of the Community Champions on this forum.  I'm sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  Glad to hear that you are doing ok.  It's always helpful to have a surgeon who takes the time to explain everything to you in a way that you can understand.

Wishing you the best of luck with your MRI.

    Best wishes

  • Thank you for reply

  • I completely understand what you have described. I was diagnosed with Paget’s disease of the breast a week ago and my first reaction was actually relief (I had suspected it for a while and had to persuade consultant I needed a biopsy) that finally something would be done. I then had a period of calm. This week I have had some lows. Like you I am waiting on an MRI on 1st July.
    wishing you all the best!

  • It's a natural reaction after a period of high stress - one can't live at high doh the whole time.  I've found the best way is just take one thing at a time, not try and second-guess the future.  Meanwhile, try to keep doing things that you enjoy.

  • Thanks for reply, yes ive decided to take one day/appointment at a time
