Hi all. I started chemo 2 weeks ago and finding it tough going. Any tips? On weekly paclitaxel and 3 weekly carboplatin. Long road ahead! Xx

  • Hi

Sorry to hear you are finding chemo tough.

I have just completed 7 cycles of 3 weekly chemo and can’t believe I have got through it.

I had 3 sessions of EC, then 4 sessions of docetaxel, pertuzamab and trastuzumab in 3 weekly cycles and at the end of it there was no trace of the cancer, so definitely worth persevering if you can.  I have just had my lumpectomy and will be getting radiotherapy sometime soon.

there is a thread on here where you will get lots of hints and tips, shopping suggestions etc see below

you didn’t say how you are finding it tough but if you are having problems with your mouth, Try drinking pineapple juice or eating pineapple there is a certain enzyme that helps. Dry mouth pastilles which really helped to clear my horrible tongue and inflamed mouth eg Salivix Plus and also a toothpaste called Biotene. Wish I had found these pastilles sooner as they really did help me but I was due my last cycle of docetaxal when I heard about them. Used them day and night when my tongue was really yucky. My oncologist kept recommending manuka honey but I don’t like honey so didn’t try it.  He said to coat your tongue and mouth on it or suck on a spoon of it. Good luck!
