Hi everyone
can anyone recommend a good shampoo/conditioner to help boost hair growth post chemo?

Hi DawnyB
We are all different so I can only say this worked for me .
Firstly I had hair cut in a pixie style before chemo . Only washed when needed no harsh product and finger dried .Hairdresser kept it tidy cutting it shorter when needed .
I kept hair longer than expected into 5th cycle before heavy shedding then had it shaved to no 2 .
When hair started to shed I used Nioxin shampoo and conditioner even on losing all hair . Finished chemo in December . Hair regrow started end Feb beginning March . I was shielded til July so went in bald and needed haircut by July reopening of hairdressers . Needed second cut after 5 weeks .
Hair has come back thick and healthy but with chemo curl lol I'm still using Nioxin but will revert shortly to non specialist i.e. Cheaper soon .
You can get Nioxin product on amazon also sometimes on offer on Groupon .
Also sold at hairdresser suppliers .( sounds like an advert )
I have no idea if hair growth is down to nature or Nioxin it maintains that it strengthens hair follicles ,encouraging growth .
Good luck with your treatment and hair regrowth

Thank you so much, Margaret, I’ll give it a try!
Sounds like your hair is doing well, I hope you’re managing to tame the chemo curl (mine was already curly so I dread to think what it’ll come back as?!)
Take care x

Hi Northerner, I was looking for advice about Nioxin and I came across your post. I am 11 days post my final chemotherapy and I was using the cold cap. I have kept about 70% of my hair but it is very fine and thin and I have thin patches. I bought Nioxin 4 for colour treated hair to help it thicken but I am unsure when to start using it as my hair is still shedding. I am not sure when this will stop and I am still using simple shampoo. My breast cancer nurse advised me to wait 12weeks before getting it coloured which I will follow. Any help regarding Nioxin would be appreciated . Many thanks . JennG.
Hi
im in Cumbria at the minute so answers may take a while WiFi very intermittent lol
i used nioxin no 2 shampoo and conditioner whilst shedding and when I got no 2 shave just before last chemo . Only a small amount And one shampoo before conditioner . No hairdryer even now when hair back to pixie length . I also used aqueous cream on scalp prior to shampoo to keep scalp moisturised .
My hair Back thick and strong have no idea if nioxin did this or I’m lucky . But it certainly did no harm
good luck
Hi!
i used Grow Gorgeous Intense serum which you massage into your scalp and also a head massager (hand held one with gentle rubber 'prongs' ...a few quid from Amazon). I still use the massager as it feels great. I feel that my hair did grow back quickly though I didn't have anything to measure it by! It also grew back thicker and grey which was no surprise. I've kept it grey and short and have never had more compliments from when it was dyed and shoulder length...to be honest I'm happy to have hair!
Hope you find something that works for you. Stay strong. x
Buy Biotin supplement. I can't recommend it highly enough. I started taking it after first chemo session as I saw it recommended on this website. My hair started growing back after 3rd chemo session. Had no problems with any of my nails through chemo. It was is fabulous for hair growth and nails.
Hi Northerner, Baduki1 and AJH4, thanks for your advice. I will definitely start using my Nioxin straight away and have a look for the other products that you have mentioned. My hair is also grey and was long and blonde before chemo but just happy to have some hair and hope it starts growing quite quickly. Thanks again Xx
