Hi everyone

i had a hard lump on my right inner side of breast checked on weds. After a Mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy the nurse practitioner broke the news that she was pretty sure it was cancer but the good news was there didn’t seem to be any swelling of the lymph nodes. But I would need to wait a week for the biopsy results to come back to be 100%. In the meantime my feelings of nausea which I had on and off before the apt have got worse and I am feeling full more frequently at meals and last night I woke in the night feeling unwell and shivery. I am now really worried that these are all signs of secondary cancer. Has anyone experienced these symptoms?

  • Hi SophieB unlikely to be secondary cancer, sounds more like cold/flu type symptoms.

  • Hi Sophie, I'm really sorry to hear that you have been told you may have breast cancer, but I'm pleased that your lymph nodes don't appear to be affected. What you are feeling is quite normal and I do understand. When I first found my lump and was waiting for test results, I felt pains and twinges all over my body and convinced myself that the cancer had spread everywhere. These are the tricks our minds play on us. And my appetite did suffer too. You may well have the start of a cold or flu, but it sounds more psychosomatic to me. Try to keep busy and do some relaxation techniques but I know it's a really difficult time. Do call the Macmillan helpline when you are feeling anxious as they can really help. And of course we are all here for you on this forum so do keep in touch and let us know how you get on. Sending lots of love, Amy x

  • Thanks for your reply. I really hope so. Hope you are doing ok

  • Thanks so much for your reply Amy. I found going out for a long walk today really helpful. Relaxation techniques for when I m stuck indoors worrying is a great idea thank you. Hope you are doing ok

  • Hi Sophie, yes, a walk outdoors always works wonders, physically and mentally. I started walking  outdoors everyday for 30 minutes or more from the day after I was diagnosed and I'm convinced this helped me cope with the physical and emotional effects of chemo, maintain my weight and get fitter.
