Hi, just wondered how long people have waited from diagnosis to surgery. I know it depends on the type of BC and when it was found. If left longer than the normal time would they do another mammogram. I am still getting to know all the various types and what they mean, sorry Disappointed

  • Hi Blu welcome to the forum. Believe it or not your question requires quite a long answer and  encompasses a variety of different parts.

Cold you tell us a  bit more about your story and then we can target the answer to that specifically for you if that makes sense?

For example how long have you been waiting and has there been a delay for you between diagnosis and surgery?

  • Hi

I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 4 April and had my surgery (lumpectomy) on 29th April.

  • Hope you are feeling ok now and things are looking positive for you. I was handling things pretty well but seem to have hit a blip where I’m getting a little nervous x

  • I had my last chemo last week and will be having 10 sessions of radiotherapy, probably starting in the New Year, then that's my treatment finished.

It's natural to feel nervous from time to time. Where are you in your treatment?

  • Hi Blu, I was diagnosed on 22 August and had surgery on 26 September.
I had a biopsy which confirmed the suspected diagnosis… I don’t think another mammogram would be required once the diagnosis has been confirmed

  • Hi Blu,

I was diagnosed on the 26th October and had a lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node removed on the 1st December. So early days for me, but I’m getting there.

I have an appointment on the 14th December with the consultant to get the results and a treatment plan. Although I have already been told I will be having radiotherapy.

Mine was DCIS and IDC in the right breast. This was found on a mammogram that I had early October. I’m so lucky that it was picked up so early and have every faith that I will beat this.

You don’t say how long ago the BC was discovered? But they won’t hang around and you will be in and out before you know it. Good luck on your journey xx

  • Hi

    I was diagnosed 6.9.22  I had my op 28.11.22

inbetwern that they placed me on eastrogen blockers .

I had two mammograms, 2 lots of biopsies , ultra sounds and an mri plus HER2 tests done in during the weeks .

There was actually a breach due to the amount of testing they did .

  • I think there are lots of variants depending on where you live, type of cancer etc. I had my lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy just over three weeks after my results appointment. The surgeon I saw for my results would not have been able to fit me in for three months but she put me on the list of another surgeon.  I know it is an anxious time for you waiting for a date. I felt anxious that the tumour was growing fast just in the three weeks that I waited but of course it wasn’t. The mind goes into overdrive. Why don’t you give your Breast Care nurse a ring and see if she can find out anything. They are so helpful.

  • I eas diagnosed on 29th November and my surgery is 16th December . I’ve been told radiation and hormones are my treatment plan but from reading here I know that could change depending on what surgery finds . I’m overweight so worried about anesthetic

  • I’m sure you will be fine. I finished five days of radiotherapy a few weeks ago. Started taking HT on 18 September.  Once you are in the system you are well looked after. I got fed up with all the pre op appointments but they were necessary. Good luck. Xx
