I am an 80 year old lady and I had my mastectomy surgery for grade 2 lobular carcinoma 5 months ago. I have been taking Letrozole 45mg daily for about 4 months and will be prescibed for the next 5 years. I am suffering with night sweats and hot flushes. Also despite exercising and walking daily I am experiencing joint pains needing to take analgesia nearly every day just to be a bit more comfortable. Has anyone any advice for me?
Hello I am on Letrozole also. Am suffering hot flushes and night sweats too. I carry a neck fan everywhere with me. I have 2 so one is charging while I wear the other one. I did not cope very well with the summer heat hey ho. I also have a fan in my bedroom that is on at night. Just checked my dose of letrozole and am only on 2.5 mg!
I've recently been swapped from anastrazoe to letrozole as the anastrozole was causing foot pain. At the moment I'm doing OK with the letrozole.
Apparently both drugs reduce oestrogen but I was told some people tolerate one drug better than the other.
Might be worth you speaking to the oncology nurse or the breast care nurse to see if swapping is appropriate for you.
Hope you get it sorted soon

Hello Gardeninglady
I think the night sweats and hot flushes are because you have had oestrogen in your body and the letrozole is taking that away. With regards to the aching joints, this could be because of the coatings in the tablets. It can happen with the tablets anyway, but it's worth checking out the coatings.
I was on anastrozole for 5 years (does the same thing) and I had Accord or Teva brand. I was given Consillient once and OMG, my joints ached like crazy. I googled what was in the coatings and there was a significant different in the Consillient tablet. After that, I got my GP to have on my prescription slip to only give me the 2 brands that didn't cause me those side effect.
Hope this helps a little,
Kindest wishes, Lesley
