Hi, I am new to group and wondered how long pain, numbness and hard lump remain after having lymph nodes removed please?
Hi
im 8 weeks post surgery and still numb. I also have swelling although the discomfort has just subsided
I hope you’re ok - sending good vibes your way
That's good to know Sharon, thank you. Just feels really strange and taking a long time to heal but if that's normal, I can cope
Hi Fullofquestions, I had a lymph node clearance just over 2 weeks ago. I am still numb under the arm and can’t lift it very high but am working on the exercises I have been given to help improve that. I’m still sore down the back of my arm. It feels like sunburn especially when clothes touch it. I’m still healing and hoping that these sensations will lessen over time.
Wishing you all the best for your journey.
Hugs from cuffcake x x x x x
I was told that the numbness could let for a year. I can remember that with my c section scar years ago too
Hi Cuffcake. That's a great way of describing it. I couldn't explain to people that having clothes touch the area was a bit sore but you are correct, it's like sunburn. It is improving albeit slowly so hopefully we will both feel less uncomfortable soon. Xx
Had lumpectomy and 2 lymph nodes removed 6 weeks ago. Still have numbness and hard lump. I saw my Doctors post surgery and was advised not to worry as it takes time to heal.
Hi Fullofquestions, definitely early days from my own experience. Mine went from numb to feeling like a carpet burn, very strange. I’d second the importance of the arm exercises, I kept them going even through radiotherapy. Everyone is different as are their operations as so much depends on the size and location of the lump. I took a long time to get full movement back on that side and was thrilled one day to be able to undo my bra at the back again! It all resolved slowly but surely. Love and hugs, HFxx
Hi, I am a year post lumpectomy and lymph node removal. My breast is still hard in places and sore with stabbing pains at times. I am most comfortable not wearing a bra but a supportive vest top under clothing. I am afraid BC is a long journey and there is no return to how things were pre surgery. It is about adapting to the new you and for me trying to focus on the positives in my life, although I do get overwhelmed from time to time with having a cancer diagnosis. You are not alone in your journey and I find this forum very helpful x
Thank you Carrie. It really helps to hear from people dealing with the same thing. Xx
