Hi

I'm recently diagnosed with breast cancer I start chemo on 9th September.

It's sinking in slowly but my moods are all over the place and I'm finding it hard to talk about with family.

Any advice would be very much appreciated as I want to be strong and except that this is happening. Tia x

  • Hi  Sorry you find yourself in this situation. I also have TNBC. I had surgery first and am in the second half of my chemo now. Obviously experiences differ, but my blog might give some idea of the different phases of treatment.

  • Hi Dolly 64

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer.  It's perfectly understandable that it's sinking in slowly and that your moods are all over the place, it's a shock to get a cancer diagnosis.

The best piece of advice I can give you is to take things one day at a time. What ever you do don't google triple negative as the information is out of date.  Rely on sites like this one and Breast Cancer now for your information as these sites have the most up to date information about Breast Cancer.  If you need further support here's a link to the various supports that you can receive from Macmillan: community.macmillan.org.uk/.../finding-cancer-support-online-where-do-i-start

While I won't say chemo is easy it is doable and your medical team will do everything in their power to make sure that you stay well during treatment and they are only a phone call away if you need help coping with any side effects you may have.  You will also get an out of hours number in case you don't feel well when the chemo unit is closed.

When you are receiving chemo if you have any ill effects don't hesitate to call on your chemo nurse straight away and they will sort out whatever is causing the problem.  Drink plenty of fluids during and after each chemo cycle as it can help with any side effects you may have.  Try and get out in the fresh air even if it's just for a short walk everyday as again getting out in the fresh air can help.

Wishing you the best of luck with your treatment and keep posting on here whenever you feel overwhelmed or need information about your treatment or need to rant.  There is a triple negative forum as well that you can join, though it's not as busy as this forum.  Here's the link: Triple negative breast cancer forum.

  • Welcome ladies,

I am personally nearing the end of Chemo, it’s scary times but is absolutely doable. Please do not feel overwhelmed by ALL the possible side effects, take it one day at a time, listen to your body and you will get through.

There is loads of great advice on this forum, please trust this and try not to Google, so much outdated information out there and so much more to learn here from people on a similar journey here and now.

You will feel better once treatment starts xxx

    • Hi, sorry to hear that. I was diagnosed a month ago with TNBC and have  had my first round of chemo. It is all very over whelming, and I am definitely feeling slightly anxious about it. I can only say take one day at a time, don't Google anything, get support wherever you can. I wish you well. X
  • Hi Dolly64.
you will get through - My diagnosis was triple negative inflammatory breast cancer - chemo completed in June- wasn’t easy but you are well looked after and you can do it. Have had a mastectomy- nothing to worry about- again the team really looks after you.

    Best wishes x

  • Hi Dolly64 I also have tnbc and am currently halfway through chemo with possible surgery later. Just want to send you support and tell you that it is ok not to always be “strong”. Everyone tells me I am strong but I don’t always feel strong and this is a good place to say that if you need to xx
