Hello I just joined the group.  I’m wondering if anyone got breast cancer after having had breast implants, like me?

  • Hi Jgau .

I too have breast implants and have recently been diagnosed with lobular breast cancer.
i asked if the implants was to blame which they said wasn’t the case but it’s still at the back of my mind. My implants have benn in 13years and I was looking into having them removed just before I found the lump x

  • Hello Missi K

Me too lobular cancer in the right breast.  My implants were well overdue for replacement but lasted over 20 years with no problems.  Then routine mammogram! I’ve had a mastectomy and and implant put in at the same time.  Sadly it was in 7 out of 14 lymph nodes so I had to have another surgery to take them out.  There’s more but great to connect with you x

  • Sounds like your further ahead with treatment than me. It’s very scary both my implants have ruptured and I have silicone in the nodes , don’t know yet if cancer has spread there but I am expecting it to with size of tumour involved .my implants are sub muscular which I now regret . I’m waiting for more scans and tests but basically told it will be a mastectomy . Mine is the left breast and is bigger than they first thought . They have also found something in my right breast but unsure of what till further scans.

I do hope you are recovering well after your surgeries. Will you be having chemo/radio?x.

It's so hard to rationalize, and we're programmed to be curious and want answers about what went wrong.  When I started fretting about the things I'd done which may have brought on my cancer, my breast care nurse told me to STOP!  She said there were only two reasons I'd got breast cancer, and I couldn't control either of them 1) that I was a woman and 2) that I was getting older!  It helped me feel a bit less guilty.

I've thought this also many times, keep looking online but no definite answers, but I like yours x

Yes I am much further on than you.  I do not believe having implants causes our type of cancer.  I never found a lump.  My mammogram had been delayed because of Covid.  My implants are also under the muscle.  To describe my cancer … Lobular carcinoma invasive ER positive, PR positive, HER2 negative.  No evidence of metastatic disease.  However, when I had the mastectomy and new implant.  2 out of 3 lymph node taken at the same time showed cancer.  So I had to have right auxiliary nodal clearance, another surgery.  The final report was 32 mm grade 2 invasive lobular cancer with a total of 7 out of 14 cancerous lymph nodes.  This might be too much info for you but please feel free to ask me anything you like.  I’m currently having chemo because it was it the lymph nodes.  After that radiotherapy.  Xxx

  • Hi Katherine.h.p

Your breast care nurse is absolutely right.  It’s now 2 out of 3 people getting cancer of some sort at some stage of their life.  I too did not think it would be me, but when it was I just thought well lets crack on then.  It is what it is and cannot be changed.  I find personally I don’t talk about it much to friends and family purely because they can’t possibly understand the actual stuff going on.  I have 2 sisters who ask the daftest questions.  So Ive told them to back off.  I had to do that.  I’m coping pretty well despite quite a lot of stuff I’ve had to go through.  Don’t fret it’s not your fault.  Xxx

  • Hi Jgau I was diagnosed with 21mm grade 2 stage 2 lobular carcinoma last Tuesday with 2/4 lymph nodes involved after having a lumpectomy for a 9mm grade 1 ductal carcinoma and it’s oestrogen positive HER2 positive where originally it was HER2 negative oestrogen positive. I will be having chemo & herceptin and then radiotherapy, after I have an auxiliary node clearance.

  • Hi Di54

I wish you all the very best with your chemo and radiotherapy.  I am still having chemo and after that radiotherapy.  It’s a long road  but we are all here together.  Best wishes.  J x
