Hello I just joined the group. I’m wondering if anyone got breast cancer after having had breast implants, like me?
Hi Jgau,
Thankyou for your reply . All I know at present is the cancer is the ER positive lobular , but I don’t know the finer details yet.
I have 2 areas in the left breast and MRI showed something also in the right breast .awaiting further tests for that.
I am fully expecting extensive lymph node involvement too .
I’m pleased to hear you have no evidence of metastatic disease. How are you finding the Chemo ? I know there can be some awful side effects . I hope yours are minimal x
Hi Missi k. My first lot of chemo was EC which I think is quite a harsh chemo but I seem to have managed it well. I tried the cold cap twice - after that I gave it up as my hair was coming out. Only 30% of people manage to keep their hair so I hope you will be one of them. For me, it wasn’t a big deal as I am a realist so I just get on with it. My first lot of chemo was every 2 weeks for 4 cycles. Now its weekly and is due to finish at the beginning of October so 5 months altogether. Everyone handles it in different ways, try to stay positive and make sure you get to make your own decisions if you are offered reconstruction. Best wishes J xxx
So pleased you have managed well with the chemo , you have a brilliant positive attitude, I hope I will cope as well as you .
I will prob give the cold cap a go , but as you say , it is only successful to a small percentage.
I have already decided for a mastectomy with no reconstruction. I really don’t want any more implants…Strange really as I had breast implants to boost my original tiny A cups breasts , now I’m prepared to go totally flat. have requested a double mastectomy (awaiting decision on this )
Thankyou for sharing your journey with me , it’s good to talk to someone who’s travelling the same path xx
Hi Missi k
You will cope and you just proved how strong you are by making your decision to go for a double mastectomy. Maybe you will get those amazing tattoos, surely that hurts? Ouchies. You will get through this. By electing to have an implant I will need surgery on my left breast to remove the other old implant and somehow make it smaller to match my new one. Probably after chemo and radiotherapy. I hope I made the right decision! Good luck with everything we are all here together. J xxx
Thankyou Jgau ,
im sure you have made the right decisions for yourself. Maybe if I’d hadn’t had implant problems I would have gone ahead with another implant . Not sure about the tattoos though , I’m a bit of a wimp these days .
Good luck with your future treatment . Wishing you all the best xxx
