Cording?

Following my lumpectomy and SNLB, I have had a little tenderness going down my arm from my armpit.  I noticed in the shower today an inflamed, sinewy "cord" there.

Has anyone else experienced cording? What did you do about it?

  • Hi Jojo73!

I also had cording after my surgery.
If you follow the exercises they give you it should help and I stretched my arm bit by bit every day and gently massaged the cord/armpit.
It was sore but it completely went after about 3/4 weeks.

    I hope this helps!

  • Hi  I too had cording after my mx plus a bit of lymph node removal, one of which was mildly affected. It can be really annoying, but firm massage can help in the really tight bits. If you’ve a physio attached to your unit they can help, or BCN can too if you’ve a speedy access….interestingly, I used a moisturiser on my arms one morning, and against the light I could actually see it, astonishing!

hope it goes fast for you

  • Thanks Moomy! Hugs, Jo. Xx

  • I had this about six months after my op. Looked like a guitar string! I massaged it really firmly in little circles with my thumb until it made a popping sound like bubble wrap and that instantly relieved it. Then for the next couple of days massaged the rest of it in the same way all along until it went. x

  • I took a photo the following day

And you can see the cording near my wrist, it had been released by my elbow (can only just see the red mark from the deep physio massage at the very edge of the pic)

  • It’s fine, totally fine…..that was in 2024.
I’m still firm with the massage of the radiotherapy scarred area though
